I remember that there was a player in the College World Series a few years ago that did pretty much this same thing. The PU did not award first base.

Here is a memo from one of the NCAA Conference Coordinators:

NCAA UMPIRES IN ACC, CONFERENCE USA, SEC, SOUTHLAND, SUN BELT

March 10, 2008

BATTER HIT BY PITCH

This is another point of emphasis that I see the umpires doing a good job. If a batter is hit by a pitch in her batter’s box, send her to 1st base. An attempt to avoid being hit could be a blink of the eye, a flinch, a turn of the body. Put her on 1st! If a batter is hit by a pitch but the pitch is in the “river” between her box and the zone, put her on 1st base. Keep her in the box if she swings at the pitch and is hit, if the pitch is a strike and she is hit, or if she obviously and intentionally tries to get hit by extending an arm, shoulder, leg, or hip into the pitch.
