Game management

I'm watching the game before mine starts. Bottom of 7th , 2 outs and R1 on 2B. Shot down left field line. PU comes up with "foul ball". Big ruckus breaks out. It turns out PU anticipated it being foul but it landed fair. I learned this from talking to him after the game.

So home team is not happy. PU and BU get together and then PU announces "fair ball " game over. Now visitors get to hoot and hollar. So they get together again and rule it a foul ball. Game goes on and of course home team eventually loses in 9 innings.

just looking to see what you guys/gals would come up with. My thinking is "foul ball" is a foul ball. You kicked it and you live with it. No changing it or rechanging it .

Would my thinking be correct ?

Why do these things always happen with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th?

The shot heard round the world is just barly above the bell heard round the park once you ring it the play is dead. I learned timing on these calls a long time ago, small ball and guy behind the plate kills it as it is rolling up 3rd base line in foul territory toward grass (grass on both sides of dirt baseline) well the baseline was lower than the grass so it hit the incline and rolled and stopped a good 4-5" in fair territory.....but agian he rang the bell he ate it. When he confered with me, and said "What should I do?" "wait till it is touched next time in front of first or third before calling it foul or fair" then I told him he was going to have to eat it and go on. Taught him a lesson, and reassured me that long wait was worth it!!

Cause it wouldn't be any fun if it happened with no one on in the top of the first.

Happened in a game involving a team from your neck of the the WOOD- no pun intended.....
