ASA JO Sliding

Does ASA JO have any specific rules governing sliding?

Specifically, is sliding ever required in certain situations? Is head first sliding allowed?

And what do you bet that it doesn't stop there?

Why IS it that everyone assumes there is a 'Must Slide Rule' somewhere in the book?? There is nothing else that gives you more problems when you go to youth leagues...or actually ANY league for that matter.....

Probably because there are a lot of leagues that actually do have a "must slide" rule in their local rules. A lot of umpires start off in these leagues, and probably never mentally separated local rules from ASA. Our organization supplies SP umpires for 3 different towns, and 2 out of those 3 have a "must slide" rule.

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

What do you say we just start citing a phantom rule and see how long it takes for them to realize there is no such rule in the book?
