Player learns from mistake
Batter hits a dribbler down the first base line. The ball lands in foul territory and then rolls fair where the first baseman fields the ball, touches first, OUT. As I return to my position, I see the batter half in the box looking down to her third base coach waiting for the next batting instruction. She never ran. When she realizes that she is out she respectfully asks me, "Was that ball foul?" "No dear, that ball was fair." "But is landed foul." "But is was fielded fair."
The game goes on, when the inning is over the batter is now the catcher. Before the pitcher gets to the circle the catcher picks up the ball and rolls it down the first base line, the ball rolls into fair territory. Bing the light comes on, when she first got behind the plate at the start of the game she rolled several balls down the third base line where they rolled foul every time. At the start of her team's next game on a different field she rolled balls down both the first and third base lines. It was real neat to watch a player learn from and then correct her mistakes.
Man I love this sport.
