I absolutely HATE the semantics of NFHS rules at times. Either the DP is in the game or she isn't. It cannot be both. Stupid rule/definition.

And in Missouri, we have been playing since March 17, part 2 test didn't even open until March 20th. But you just have to pass it or be on probation, which means no postseason. Otherwise, it has no bearing on assignments.

Well, the wording sucks; it isn't really a substitution for the DP. But it absolutely IS a substitution for the FLEX; didn't that person leave the game, being replaced by the DP in that defensive role?

Of course, that part was not the question. The "semantics" problem is calling someone a substitute who is already in the game.

Agree. I guess NFHS feels that when the DP replaces the FLEX on defense, the DP is considered a substitute because she is replacing a starter who is now on the bench.

Problem is that when the FLEX re-enters to play defense and the DP goes back to offense only, the DP has not left the game. So when she replaces the FLEX on defense again, she becomes a substitute again, but she isn't exercising her one re-entry as a substitute because she's not really re-entering. It does create confusion.
