I absolutely HATE the semantics of NFHS rules at times. Either the DP is in the game or she isn't. It cannot be both. Stupid rule/definition.
And in Missouri, we have been playing since March 17, part 2 test didn't even open until March 20th. But you just have to pass it or be on probation, which means no postseason. Otherwise, it has no bearing on assignments. |

Well, the wording sucks; it isn't really a substitution for the DP. But it absolutely IS a substitution for the FLEX; didn't that person leave the game, being replaced by the DP in that defensive role?

Of course, that part was not the question. The "semantics" problem is calling someone a substitute who is already in the game.

Problem is that when the FLEX re-enters to play defense and the DP goes back to offense only, the DP has not left the game. So when she replaces the FLEX on defense again, she becomes a substitute again, but she isn't exercising her one re-entry as a substitute because she's not really re-entering. It does create confusion.
