Illegal Bat - NCAA
Need help with this play:
4/15 @ A30. Team A's snap is over the punter's head. While rolling on the ground near the A10 the punter kicks the ball out of the end zone. Ruling? I'm thinking B has the option of B 1/G @ A5 or a safety, but I am not sure if a loose ball foul by A is enforced at the spot of the foul or previous spot. Thoughts? Please provide rule references if possible.

As written, you've described an illegal kick, not an illegal bat.
The penalty for an illegal kick (or illegal bat) is 10 yards + LOD (9-4-1 and 9-4-4). Basic spot is the previous spot (10-2-2-d). Foul is behind the basic spot, so penalty is enforced from spot of the foul (10-2-2-c-1). So, Team B has two options: Decline the penalty, take the result of the play: Safety. Take the penalty, and have 1st-goal from the A-5. |
