Thanks!

The more I thought about this, the more I thought the other guy was right. Otherwise, what would be the disadvantage for R to not go drill a guy inside the 20 yard line on the return, say from inside the 10?

It sounds to me as if the OP might have thought that PSK and ABO are incompatible. Not so: PSK gives us the basic spot, then ABO applies as well, as HLinNC's sequence of questions suggests.

Thanks for the quiz question!

It's pretty easy once you have the basic principals down. Find the basic spot, find the spot of the foul, does ABO (or 3-and-1 in NCAA rules) apply.

Speaking of the rest of the thread, in my experience the R is the one with the detailed enforcement knowledge and the crew saves the R about once or twice a season.

Nah, he's the U.
U's too busy looking for his

The U is busy making sure the R is facing the right direction and has the drool wiped off his chin.

And the R is making sure the U isn't going the wrong direction when marking off penalty yardage.

I know this picking nits, but ABO ALWAYS applies. It's either the All or the One. I think it's clearer to say does the One apply (foul by offense behind the basic spot)? I agree with you though...focus on learning the definitions and fundamentals and there aren't too many situations that will stump you.
