Penalty Enforcement
I am having a disagreement with a crew member and like 99% of people I have problems translating the all but one principle so your help would be greatly appreciated.
On a normal run past the LOS the penalty enforcement for holding is from the spot. On a run that never crosses the LOS and the run ends behind the spot of the foul where is your enforcement spot? Is it the same for NCAA? Thanks everyone for the help. |

There are two teams, either offense and defense.
A foul is either beyond or behind the basic spot. All fouls by the offense and the defense are enforced from the basic spot BUT ONE: fouls by the offense behind the basic spot are enforced from the spot of the foul. Now can you answer your own question?

NF: All fouls BUT one are enforced from the basic spot. (aka 3 and one) All but = 1) Foul by B beyond the basic spot, 2) Foul by A beyond the basic spot, 3) Foul by B behind the basic spot. The One= Foul by A behind the basic spot. What are the basic spots? Running play = end of the run Loose ball play = previous spot Now given this, what do you say? I think in NCAA, they don't penalize A behind the basic spot but the previous spot, i.e. a hold by A behind the LOS, penalize from previous spot. Not all fouls go back to the previous spot. All the different fouls for illegal blocks and personal fouls do go back the previous spot. Those that don't would be illegal batting, kicking, illegal passes. Those would be from the spot of foul. |

You haven't given us enough information to answer the question. Where is the end of the run? Where is the spot of the foul? Quote:

My answer- On a running play the basic spot will be the end of the run. The penalty will be enforced from the basic spot unless it's a penalty by A behind the basic spot. So on a normal run if the penalty occurred behind the end of the run the penalty would be enforced from that spot. If it occurred beyond the end of the run, the enforcement spot would be the end of the run. You asked- "On a run that never crosses the LOS and the run ends behind the spot of the foul where is your enforcement spot? Is it the same for NCAA?" My answer- It would be enforced from the end of the run, even if that is behind the original LOS. I'm not sure what it would be in NCAA.. Last edited by tomes1978; Thu Sep 08, 2011 at 07:08pm. |

Not correct. The one kind of foul enforced from the spot of the foul is a foul by the offense behind the basic spot, which could be B after a change of possession.
