2009 Redding question

2009 Rule 8-2-4
If after a touchdown scoring play and prior to the initial ready-for-play for the try, either team commits any foul for whicdh the basic spot is the succeeding spot, the offended team may have the penalty enforced from the succeeding spot or may choose to have the penalty enforced on the subsequent kickoff.

Now, simply because currently their are NO states that begin an overtime with a kickoff, the subsequent kickoff option is not available if the foul occurs during or after a touchdown scoring play that occured on the last timed down of regulation.
Restated, while it is commonly said; Fouls occuring during regulation play can not carry over into overtime, this is technically an incorrect statement, as it is only true if your state does not start its overtime with a kickoff. (Currently no states begin overtime periods with a kickoff.)

Addtionally, after this touchdown (which occurred on the last timed down of regulation) we are going to have a try. If B commits a foul during this try, A has the option of repeating the try or having the penalty enforced on the succeeding spot which IS the start of overtime. This would be an example of a foul that technically occurred during regulation play, however it may be carried over to the start of overtime.
Also, any dead ball fouls occuring during or after the try may be enforced at the start of overtime.

Now to answer your question,
YES, fouls (with succeeding spot enforcement) occuring during or after a successful Field Goal or Try of an overtime period may be enforced at the start of the next overtime period.
NO, fouls (with succeeding spot enforcment) occuring during or after a touchdown scoring play (and up until the initial ready-for-play for the try), of an overtime period, may only be enforced on the try unless the subsequent overtime period begins with a kickoff.

And, the Redding play is correct under the current rules.
