Sledgehammer During Warmups

I don't see anything in the rules that prohibits this during pre-game warmups but it doesn't "seem right". Now granted, that doesn't mean it is prohibited. Any thoughts?

I'm surprised you didn't post the picture from York, Nebraska, High's first game of the season. Kid came out with a sledge hammer during the team intros, looking like Paul Bunyun swinging, in a very stupidly lame attempt to intimidate the other team. It was ridiculous. I asked a friend who was at the game if the officials did anything. He said, no, they just chuckled because they seemed to think it was downright idiotic.

As for your picture...it does seem a bit outlandish, but if there's nothing in the rules prohibiting it, and he's not using it to try and hurt the opponent, then I would leave it alone. I think he's probably trying to intimidate the opponents, but in my opinion, someone who has to use a prop like that to do so is probably the worse athlete on the team intellectually and mentally. :-X

If we allow this, where does it stop?

I don't think there's a need for this type of stuff. I would ntot think twice about removing the prop from the game and report immediately to the RIC.

I would leave it alone, but report it to the state association. That's pretty much what we've been told to do with stuff like this, that aren't illegal by rule, but just don't seem right.

Power tools! We don't want to end up having to delay the start of a game while the teams are trying to untangle their extension cords. Cordless tools, of course, are legal if they have the NCAA/NFHS mark.

Why is this any different than carrying a flag or using a mascot?

My God, unless he hits a kid over the head with it, let it go. We can be our worst enemies.

Peace

I agree. I seen a sledgehammer at one of my games and was wondering why they had it. Now I know.

Rut, I'm inclined to agree with you and Welsch but I wanted to see what others thought anyways.

Walt, what if the extension cord is wrapped in tape with a doctor's note?

It would also have to be padded!

Assuming they are of uniform color and do not have any addornments such as a gold chuck or bit. Of course that will all change in 2019 when we will reverse all of these rules in order to make the power tool companies even more money.......Oops, kind of lost my head there.

What about the veal? Should I try it?

In Oiho, isn't it the sledgehammer that swings the player?
