I wear the Windstopper shirt under my jersey. Honig's has them. They are windproof, and nearly water proof. The Windstopper material will stick to your skin, so wear a t-shirt under it. Layering on top with turtleneck, sweater on those extra cold days/nights will help also. A friend of mine who skis regularly said I should wear silk underwear, which is sold at ski outlets everywhere. Apparently silk is great in cold, wet weather.
The trick in really cold weather is not to overdress, then perspire. Any moisture in your clothing will make you colder. Keep extra gear for halftime changes if necessary. |

Undearmour cold gear is great for most cold weather games. If you are still working in late November or early December, I add a long sleeve top made of silk over the armour and then put my weatherbeater referee shirt on. We had a game in early December last year that the temp. with wind chill was -10 and I was very comfortable.

What are you people talking about?
I bought a long sleeve referee shirt my first year, and have not worn it once. What's this "wind chill" thing anyway?

UnderArmour Cold Gear is great for 55 degrees or less. It can get uncomfortable when the temperature rises especially with a warm sun beaming down upon you.
If it is windy add either a Windstopper pullover or a striped shirt with a Windstopper lining. Turtlenecks are great for providing warmth around the neck but do not use them when it is raining because the collar will wick moisture inside your outer layer and make you cold and wet. I tried the Under Armour gloves last year and they are great for those days when the hands get cold. They allow you to operate a watch as long as the button are good size. Keep some Chap Stick or Blister some similar product in your bag to protect yourself from lip chap, especially, if you are a referee because you blow the whistle constantly. Then pray for warm weather. |

The Under Armor is on the way. I've always layered and layered. But I'm tired of feeling like the Michelin man!
