Our mechanics is that the LM has the forward progress spot on QB sacks, so, when the QB is scrambling, he is looking in the direction. He is also able to see where the pass goes, since with the pass he will turn upfield and cover the play. The R is responsible for the saftey of the QB formost. When the ball is thrown, R must still spend (sometimes quite a bit of) time looking at the QB and area. It seems to me that completely forbidding the LM from throwing this is... Well - close minded (not stupid). At the very least there should be a particular signal incorperated in the mechanics to indicate to the R that the ball was not thrown over the LOS (and no eligible reciever was around). But some refs (we have different crews every week), I just sit on my knowledge and have no way to let him know there is a possible fould that he should consider... Oh well - like I said, some refs do it different than others. James |
