This is what we do. I figured it really didn't matter. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The teams warm-up at the end they are going towards in the first half, so facing that way in the pre-game meeting seems like overkill. Not to mention that, at least in central Ohio, our captains' meetings happen around the 18:00 mark, so they may forget anyway.
Oh, and we have our meetings in the center circle. |

They don't even put 18 minutes on the clock in my neck of the woods...JV ends, 15 on the clock (if being generous), we aren't usually back out until 10.

And the meetings have to take place in front of the scorer's table. One of the reasons to my understanding is someone, somewhere said something inappropriate to a player and now coaches had to be involved and they wanted them near the table. I guess so what is said could be observed more closely. Peace

In my old association I was told that the players should face their own basket, "just because." In my new association this year I'm told that they stay on the end that they're warming up on so they don't have to shoulder past each other. Okay

I only make sure they're in the gym.
But, seriously, somewhere near the center court. I don't really care where they stand but I have never seem them anywhere but standing on the side of the court where their team is warming up.

When I first started getting R assignments a few years ago I had the players switch sides and face the basket simply b/c that is what other guys did. Now I just have them come to the center circle as they are. I've also shortened what I say considerably and view the whole deal as more of a ritual than anything else. It doesnt really matter where they stand or what we say to them. They are teenagers and will forget whatever we said as soon as they walk away. And that's if they were even paying attention to begin with. |
