Legally equipped?
Both teams wearing shooting tops over their jerseys as we observe them warming up. Coaches, are your players legally equipped? Yes. Lining up for opening tip, A5 is wearing a tee shirt that has had the sleeves cut out of it, but not at all neatly done. Obviously he's not legally equipped. How do you guys handle this?

Correct. Why would one do anything else?

I think he's asking if you penalize the coach for saying his team members were properly equipped when this one was not.
The answer is no.

Option B is to have the player leave the visual confines, remove the tee-shirt (or replace it with a legal one) and return.
Part of which option to choose will depend on exactly when it was discovered (maybe he's the first kid introduced and he can make the change while the others are being introduced; or maybe no one takes off the warmups until just before the tip) |

If every crew would just enforce this the first and second game of the season, this Fashion Police idiocy would probably disappear for the rest of the year.

Consistency ...
Quote:
In the Catholic middle school league that I officiate in, Fashion Police rules are made clear, by our assigner, to the coaches, at the start of each season, and our assigner tells us that he wants us to enforce them. By the second, or third, game of the season, these are non-issues. And these are eighth grade (and lower) players, coached by unpaid, volunteer coaches. Why can't this trickle up to the high school ranks? I would love to start a high school varsity game, especially a girls game, and observe no Fashion Police issues, but, so far this season, that just hasn't happened.

I was the R on a Men's JV game last week. Two players from the home team come out for the jump ball, one wearing black leg sleeves the other wearing white. Obviously, my partner wasn't paying attention to his responsibilities. I informed the players they needed to pick a color and then told the coach the same thing. The player wearing white chose to take his off, as three other players were wearing black. (The white sheep was the problem this time.)
The coach of course said, "Even for a JV game?" Yes coach, even for a JV game. I didn't get a sub then, just waited; but wish I had because it took awhile for him to take off his shoes, remove the sleeve and then put shoes back on. |

Early last month, I had Team B at Team A. Team A was the Home Team and wearing all white with red trim. A1 and A2 were wearing white knee sleeves and A3 was wearing red knee sleeves. I told A3 could not wear red knee sleeves, and the took them off. Two weeks later MTD, Jr., and I had Team C at Team A. I told Mark that I bet that the same three players will be wearing the same knee sleeves as the last time I was here. And you guessed it: A1 and A2 were wearing white knee sleeves and A3 was wearing red knee sleeves. The players told us that we were the only officials enforcing the rule. And there was never a complaint by the HC about us enforcing the rule. MTD, Sr.

Let's Get This Show On The Road ...

This is an equipment issue, not a uniform issue. Why allow one minute? Also, does it matter whether it's a uniform issue, or an equipment issue? 3.6.1 SITUATION: A6 enters the game with an excessive manufacturer’s or school’s logo on his/her: (a) socks; or (b) wristbands. RULING: Legal in (a). In (b), A6 may not participate and is directed to return to the bench until legally equipped. COMMENT: The restriction on visible manufacturer’s or school’s logo size is in effect on pants/skirts, compression shorts, wristbands and headbands. The shoes and socks are not considered part of the uniform for purpose of visible logo size.

Because a team may legally delay the start of a half by 59 seconds for any reason or even no reason at all.

A trend we're seeing, a lot, in our area, is the kids rolling the waistband on their uniform shorts, such that the label/logo is seen at the back. Our assignor has instructed us to not allow it. I've been telling the players that if they want to roll the waistband, they need to roll it inward, so the label/logo doesn't show. Some players have complied, but when they have been subbed out, they return with the label/logo showing, again.
