Foul during the first of one & one
This occurred in a Men's league game. We apply NCAA rules.
A & B are both in the bonus. During A1's first attempt A2 fouls B2 (virtually simultaneously with the making of A1's free throw). The foul is a common foul, nothing that warrants an intentional or F1. How is this administered under NCAA and NFHS rules? Is this just a strange sounding false double? We finished A's bonus (empty lane) and then shot B's bonus and played on. |

NFHS: Foul penalties are administered in order of occurrence.
Clear the lane for A1's second free throw. Proceed to the other end for B2's free throws with the lane spaces occupied, and resume play as you would on any other regular free throw attempt. And, since it's Men's league, whack the first guy that complains about anything. You got it right. |

Just as you did, under both sets of rules

A pet peeve of mine: I hate when the players are wacking each others arms or elbowing (the girls are worse) in the lane prior to the shot. I have found that hollering at them, "No contact before the rim!!" Usually diffuses it before it turns into something like a foul while the ball is live but before the FT is over.

I've been known to give 'em a "knock it off" when that happens. Or, I'll just hold up giving the ball to the shooter for a few seconds, and then say something like "are you done? Ok, let's play ball."
I'll do the same thing when two players are chickenfighting before a throw-in. That usually gets the point across. |

I swear I read this somewhere and that is why I started saying it in the first place. I got annoyed when they were doing it and then I came across the rule one day and was like sweet. However, I can not find it now. Can anyone else help me out?

Not likely since it has never been the rule.

Time For My Pet Peeve ...
If one is going to say anything like this, at least get the rule correct. "No contact before it hits.", without any reference to the rim, should do the trick.

Contact between players in free throw lane spaces prior to the ball contacting the ring a. It is illegal to physically contact an opponent prior to the ball legally contacting the ring." This appeared in the final two sentences of this season's POEs. However, there is absolutely no justification for it in the rules book. Last edited by Nevadaref; Sat Mar 02, 2013 at 04:11am. |

As a POE without rules, case, or interpretation backing, this provision is not enforceable.
