Even with 10 people in the stands and an otherwise mundane game, you always need to be ready. Maintaining court/player awareness might help get that first elbow and maybe prevent the second.

the first elbow was what you would expect in a girls game. on the other hand, i would say the mma training the girl who threw the second elbow is taking is really working good for her.

Don't be misled by elbow discussions this season into thinking that you should call an intentional (personal) foul on that (the second one).

I'm not going to blame the new L for missing this one. It's a subtle elbow and they're working 2-person and he's getting into position.

The *second one*? I'm more likely to believe ball watching on that one. And still, things like an elbow are going to get missed. Hard to pass judgment other than, "he missed it."

He was not going to see the first one that well IMO. A center official might have seen the entire exchange and called accordingly. The second one clearly was missed and should not have been missed. Also not knowing what time of the game this happened also would add to my opinion as to the first action. This is what you get when you try to hire officials on the cheap.

Right. That's what I was referring to. Most quick elbows missed in 2-person games would've been caught with 3-official crews, IMO. But not all of them -- that's why the big boys go to the monitor.

The first one was totally on the sly and hard to catch ... I can see how they missed it ... even with 3 officials she might get away with that one because either T or C will be on ball and you will need the off-ball official to catch it.

But the second one? No excuse! Lead should be watching those two players to begin with.

Here's a hint: Players do not just stop playing and put their face in their hands for no reason.

My $0.02...This is a good example among other things - of why we need to get into position as soon as possible. I can't say how hard the new L was or was not running to get down court but when the second elbow came he had just reached the end line. Since there's no press just get there and be ready to accept whatever play is coming.

Obviously, watching the ball contributed to this as well since even if he wasn't at the end line he should've at least been looking at the post players because they'd already set up along the lane.

I don't see how it is possible to miss the second one. The first one, can be missed, it was sneaky. First one is a T, and the second one is an ejection. I would also venture to say that this wasn't the first action those two had going in that game.

first one cannot be a T, it is contact while ball is live and would thus have to be an intentional foul if you wanted to go that way. if you are going flagrant on the second on, it would be a flagrant personal foul.
