My experience has been that Assignors purposely do that. Give you a game they won't think is too tough or contentious. Give you something to grow on. You have a lot on your mind and messing up in a tight, closely contested game, between large or rival schools need not be an added pressure.
Just like when I started with MS, F, and then JV games..... Then I worked my way up to a full VG schedule. Again, starting out with better schools against "not so much." I am still working my way up and now do a 50% VB and VG schedule. If I stayed at this schedule I would have no complaints. I am not "there" yet and still have much to learn. It's a process. Coming up slowly did me good. Continued good luck! As you note, there's always something to work on!

There are exceptions. Our new (last year) assignor seems to put everyone on an even keel. She has already sent the youngest guy we have, who had never registered at any level before this year, to call a varsity game at the biggest school we have. Still trying to figure her criteria for assigning games.
