I'm saying it doesn't happen often for only the reasons stated. When a player intentionally falls to the floor avoiding/absorbing contact, it is usually for the purpose of imbellishment.

I've called this once. The player involved was clearly faking while trying to draw a charging call, and by clearly I mean that he was going down while the offensive player was two steps away from him.
I warned the player and yet he did it again as the half was ending. I also told the coach I had warned the player. The coaches response was that he teaches them "that way". Ah, OK coach. Start of the second half ... same player ... same flop so I assessed the T for faking being fouled. It had to be cleaned up. |
