Boo. It's becoming too much like American football for which it seems that nearly every call is reviewed.
This takes away the need for officials to hone their craft and develop the ability get tough plays right the vast majority of the time. The mentality of "we'll just check the video monitor" will be an easy out.

Why would it take away? At most, these situations that were approved come about once...maybe twice at most in a single game and even then, the overwhelming majority of games won't require the use of replay.

And I would think simple vanity and ego would mean an official would want the monitor to prove him right. I doubt any NBA official is going to slack on perfecting their craft and trying to get every play right they can.

Well that is not the mentality in football officiating at all. Actually officials want to make sure their stuff is not overturned. Getting a call overturned is makes them look bad or look like they were not doing their job, especially on basic plays. Some plays are just nut cutters and video in football helps get a play right. And many calls in football are not reviewable anyway.

I agree with the sentiment that in the NBA this would just slow down games more than they already have been. But at least those officials get to look at their plays and make a ruling unlike college or pro football.

Peace

While unlikely to happen, if in the final seconds, a goaltending call is overturned via replay, that makes it an inadvertent whistle on a loose ball with a center court jump ball. If there are a couple of seconds left, that makes it very difficult to score.
