I did, in my first year. JV boys, V coach whining that the foul count is against him. I tell him that's enough. Partner calls another foul on his team, and he gets going again. Whack!
I'm under the basket administering FT's (first half, other end of the court), and I STILL hear him chirping, and everyone can hear him. I wait... wait ... wait ... we're done with FT's and he still going. My partner, Methuselah, is oblivious, so I get him again. Might be my only coach ejection in a school game... I'd have to think about that.

Last season...JC coach stands up and yells at my P who is running past him "That's bullsh!t!" and I hit him with first T (just quicker than my P). He then turns to me as I am walking to the table and yells "You little motherf---ker" and I hit him with the 2nd. He was headed out the door before I had finished reporting the first one.
He sat out the next game and was fired at the end of the season. |

My first season back after many years not officiating I'm calling a 2-man BJV game. The home HC made sure to mention to us after the pre-game that the team they're playing was pretty grabby and to watch it early.
We're not 3 minutes into the game when his team coughs the ball up out of bounds in the face of full-court pressure. He yells at the top of his lungs "They're raping us out there!!!" Wack! I don't even get through reporting the technical when he yells "That's the first call you've got right all day!!!" Wack! Second T. After the game, while the varsity crew was trying to talk me down (remember - back after long break, agitated at having had the game go that way, and was hyped up having never tossed a coach before) the coach came back and apologized for his behavior. |

Last year, girls 8th grade game - coach doesn't like a call. I'm reporting, coach is closer and closer to the table still complaining. I tell him that's enough and turn away to continue the game but he wouldn't let it go. I assessed the first. He continued, said a few more things very loudly and then I remembered some of the discussions on this board about taking care of business. This seemed to be one of those times so I rewarded his behavior with the 2nd.
I called the assignor that night to let him know what had happened. What I didn't know was that the league president had been in the stands that day, had already talked to the assignor and told him that if it were him he would have tossed the coach much sooner. |

Yep
NCAA Division III game. Early in the second half, my partner "no-calls" a blocked shot, and coach slams his clipboard to the floor. I am right in front of him at trail, and I stick him. I move to center opposite for the free throws. Coach continues to complain to my "veteran" partner, who stands there talking to him. Coach then points at me and shouts "you need to go back to high school ball". I wait two beats for my (gutless) veteran partner to do something, and when he doesn't, I hit coach again and run him.
Seemed like the right thing to do. |

My first season, in a 7th-grade game. H coach is convinced he's losing by 40 'cause of officials, not 'cause of team that can't dribble, shoot, pass, play D, etc. Coach has been warned (by partner) after a loud remark. With about 1:00 left in the 4th quarter, I call a travel on V, giving H team the ball back, and H coach yells from about 20' "Where the hell was that call in the first quarter?"
Whack! In this tournament, technical fouls resulted in an automatic two points and the ball at the division line. I report and turn to administer the throw-in, and turn to find the H coach following me onto the floor. My partner is apparently not paying attention...I wait a beat and then Whack! #2, see ya. He refused to leave and the tournament director ended the game after about 2 minutes of this guy ranting. Got suspended for a month. I know this isn't Basketball, but in a 7-year-olds football game this fall I ran an assistant coach. In NFHS football, Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalties work like Ts - two and you're gone. This assistant yelled across the field at opponents that they were a bunch of sissies (for kneeling at the end of the game instead of running another play. ??). Before the flag hit the ground, he had kicked a yard line marker onto the field. I picked the flag off the ground, threw it again, and invited him to leave.

"Coach, maybe you're right and it is our fault. I'll tell you what. To make up for it, we'll give your team 30 points! Oh wait - you're still losing."
