Excessive Time Out

If a player calls a time out and his team has none remaining, is the technical foul an administrative T or is it charged to the player that called it? My instinct tells me it's an administrative T.

Team technical. Rule 10-1-7.

I was at a game where this occurred. Wasn't sure but the officials that worked the game charged the player that called the timeout with the foul, which then happened to be his 5th foul. Bad thing for that player also was that the score was tied at the time and he called it with :01 left. Subsequent technical foul shots lost the ball game for his team.

Question

Same particulars for a T for having too many players on the court? I would think that's also an "administrative" technical against the team and not against a single player. After all, which player is the "one too many"?

You are correct. 10-1-6.

Wow, where is everyone today? 4 minutes and I'm the first to respond on something? Did the internets go down in other states?

NFHS does not have that category, but other rule sets do. Some folks use it as shorthand for "don't charge it to a player or coach."

To be fair, it's the descriptive heading for the first section of the technical foul summary table in the back of the NFHS book - all of which are team technical fouls.

When I think of administrative, I think of something in the book, as opposed to something on the court.
