Plane irrelevant?

Someone just posed a question regarding "breaking the plane" of division line.

The rules certainly deal with breaking the plane during throw-ins (DOG warnings) and free throws (lane violations), but I can't think of a single instance where the division line's plane would matter in terms of a backcourt violation. Here, it should be allow about where a player takes off/lands. Correct?

Well, about player location, but yes.

I know of no circumstance that makes the division line plane relevant to anything.

All these political discussions must be making people grumpy.

Well, the division line has planes other than the one that is vertical. One of them is horizontal. I'd probably have something (a suspended game) if a player breaks the horizontal plane of the division line.

This whole thread is now just plane off-track.

Not all, wfd. A lot? Certainly. Still, I find that people want to know the "right way" to do anything. They might not like the answer, but in the long run, a better educated fan base makes our jobs easier.
