Your approach

How do you prepare for working a post-season contest on foreign ground with an official who is known for whacking/tossing coaches & fans?
You’re the least experienced (by years) but you’re in the leadership position & you just want to work well as a crew without all the other bs that you have witnessed personally & through the testimony of others.

HEY - if you don't want to work with me, just say so.

LOL ~ I'm a firm believer of the, "if you don't look good then I don't look good" concept. How do I discuss this without offending anyone?

You are not going to change your partner's personal tolerance level with any kind of pre-game talk. And you're certainly aren't going to be able to transplant your personal philosophies into your partner either. If anyone has any complaints or problems with your partner's conduct, then that's not your problem. It's the problem of whomever put your partner on the game... and he's the one that has to deal with it, not you. Just make sure that you both use the proper procedure if you do have to unload fans/coaches, whatever...i.e. use the AD, etc.

Just deal with what comes up and don't spend your time worrying about what may come up.

JMO.

In response to both the title of the thread and your question (with golf season on my mind).

Your approach: Layup and get on the green, in enough to save par. Going for it all in situations like this is almost never going to work out. Play the situation, not your ego.

Maybe that person's personality was why that person was put in that particular game. Or maybe you 2 were put in the same crew to counter-balance each other.

Give your normal pre-game.

Just be a good partner and have a good pre-game. What they do with a coach is really not your concern other than what you do after a T (which you should talk about any game you work anyway). All you do is be on the same page and work your game. If you are a person on a board, just be professional. Not sure what you should worry about. Deal with them like they have to deal with you and work together.

Peace

I would do the best possible job you can possibly do and treat them like any other unknown partner. This "partner" will probably just make you look good if they are that "bad". Its tough when your partner is a veteran and probably won't receive correction. I rarely correct my senior officials, but I do give my opinion where I can.
