Great point by Adams imo in stating that pulling a jersey should always be an intentional foul. That's one call that doesn't seem to be universally made, at both the high school and college levels.

chseagle, have you ever made this mistake? I think the timer should be tasered on the spot.

Yes, they can use the replay monitor to determine that a few seconds should be put back on the clock to correct the timing error, but how do you know which team gets the ball?

The answer: You use the possession arrow. I raise this question because Adams told me that that was the exact situation at the end of Evansville's recent win over Butler. Following the missed free throw, the Evansville players had all run back on defense, but the Butler players were waiting to touch the ball to conserve time. The scoreboard operator mistakenly ran the clock. Fortunately for everyone involved, the possession arrow pointed to Butler, but it would have been a p.r. disaster if Butler would have lost a chance to tie the game on that kind of fluke.

The only part that's been changed in all of this is the fact that if a foul needs to be called on contact involving an elbow above the neck, a personal foul is no longer an option.

"Holding a player's jersey is just holding and is just a regular foul."

Had this in a boys high school varsity scrimmage Saturday. A1 has a throwin under his own basket. I'm the administering official and hand the ball to A1. Team A players begin to set screens to get open. B1 grabs A2 by the jersey and holds on tight. Ball has not yet been thrown in. I sound my whistle and call an intentional foul on B1. Team B coach has a cow. "That's not an intentional foul. My player was just holding his opponent. Holding a player's jersey is just holding and is just a regular foul."

Hopefully the coach will read the article.

Wow. Wonder if the opponent had grabbed his players arm and held on for dear life, would he have been satisfied with a "regular foul?"

Yep, you're right. Thanks.

Nothing worse than making a mistake while trying to point out a mistake.

Attempted, but failed--use contractions, Yoda does not.
