It seems that to be elected to a prominent office, public exposure and recognizability are as important as anything. Look at Hillary. Where would she be solely on her own credentials? She had the good fortune to ride the coattails of the world's most prominent low-life for 8 years.

She was a lawyer (Yale Law School) and was a partner for a prominent law firm. She also worked in politics before she married her husband. The same way most people choose to run for office actually. Her overall name recognition might have benefited from being married to a president, but we could say the very same thing about GW and how he did really nothing on his own but became president. Hillary did not.

BTW, former first round pick for the Washington Redskins Heath Shuler is in congress now.

Here is a bigger list of athletes that turned politicians.

Thanks for the list. I had forgotten about David Bing, although I shouldn't have since Sports Illustrated had an article about him only a few months ago.

All I know is the listers in about 20 years are going to wonder what in the HECK we were even talking about as they ruminate about the latest move Senator Shaq has made. Good thing Governor LeBron and President Rodman will be around to clean up any messes.

Exclamation

Even if it's not an elective office, how about O.J. as Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court?

Hey - if the robe fits.......
