Backcourt?

NCAA Men's.

On the opening jump ball, A1 tips the ball forward into the frontcourt. The ball is heading out of bounds, so A2 runs over to save it. He jumps from the front court, and throws the ball into the back court, where A3 picks it up.

Violation?

Answer depends on what happened when he "throws" the ball. If he grabbed (controlled) the ball before he threw it into the backcourt, it's a violation when A3 grabs it in the backcourt. If A2 never controlled it, and just batted it into the backcourt, no violation.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Watching it on TV it looked to me like he had control before he threw it. Also, not sure he could bat it as far as he threw it.

Just went back and watched the replay. He definitely grabbed the ball with two hands and threw it into the backcourt

In that case, it was simply a missed call.
