Situation happened tonight in an 8th grade game. Player A1 in his BC dribbling the ball with pressure from player B1. Player A1 dribbles to mid-court line, places entire front foot into FC and dribbles ball in FC but half of his back foot remains in BC. A1 then stops and reverses direction back into his BC (the back half of his back foot never left the BC). Is this backcourt? I had no call but heard lots of screaming and yelling. I was right on top of it and made no mistake about foot position. I felt that A1 must have both feet (whole foot) and ball in FC before being established in the FC. I was second-guessing myself the whole way home.

Thanks,

RR

When dribbling, until both feet and the ball are in the FC, the player is still in the BC. No violation.

It is NOT a backcourt violation. When dribbling, the ball is not in the frontcourt until the ball and both feet of the dribbler are in the front court. In the situation you describe, those three points did not all get into the frontcourt.

I kinda like it when this happens. I mentally urge them into it: "Go ahead, kid, put your foot in the frontcourt."
Now let's see which ignorant fan yells the loudest about this "obvious violation."
All this further proves one thing: I am easily amused.
