It would be unbelievably ironic if that's really what his mother named him.

Frankly, with as much "hanging and swinging" on rims at the college and especially the NBA level, I'm a bit susprised it doesn't happen more often.

I keep replaying this, & I have to agree why is this something that doesn't happen more in College or NBA Games?
According to what they said on ESPN, the last time this happened at Spokane Arena was 9-10 years ago. YouTube - OUHOOPS.COM: Tiny Gallon Shatters The Glass |

Lucas makes his shots
Of course what is widely held to be the first backboard shattered in a pro game came in warm-ups before the first game ever played by the Boston Celtics, the BAA 1946 lid-lifter at Boston Arena when a player front-rimmed a warmup shot and the improperly installed backboard shattered.
The player was Chuck Connors. |

A local high school player who ended up playing D1, on a then nationally-ranked high school team broke a backboard at another school during an away game his senior season. He was widely known as a dunker, but it's the first and only time I've heard of it happening around here. They had to move the rest of the game into the school's second gym.
My first memory of basket destruction was when Shaq brought down the entire goal at New Jersey in the early 90's. |
