Shut the xxx up!

That was on my mind tonight.

After halftime, a varsity official was there to observe the two JV officials, of which I am one. He sat on one end of the court where there were no fans. Every time one of us was down there, he would be talking to us. One time I'm counting the inbounding ball after a basket and I can hear him saying, "It's taking too long." Then we are in the last 35 seconds of the third quarter, I've signalled to my partners that I have clock and I hear him saying, "Rita, you've got clock."

No XXXX.

He had valuable tips for both of us but I feel that it could all have waited till after the game. (He repeated it when we got there.)

So I watched the varsity game. Our association asks us to do so and bring feedback at halftime. I did. Just one thing. He didn't like it.

It was interesting.

Rita

Okay, I'll bite.

What was the one thing?

Don't plant roots in the corner?
Signal to stop the clock before the violation? (I'm very guilty of this.)
Stop watching the ball out of your primary?

It is communication between partners that the "Got Clock" official is monitoring the countdown to the end of the quarter. It also creates awareness for the crew that the end of the qtr is near.

In two-person mechanics, it will be the trail, UNLESS there is only one scoreboard then it could be the lead who has visual alignment to observe game action and the scoreboard.

Likely it was as end of quarter situation, and Rita, quite possibly being the Trail/Opposite on the upcoming play, would have last shot responsibilities. (2-/3-man crews)

I disagree. The horn ends the period, not the clock, so being able to see the clock should have no bearing on this. Give the call to the trail.

I've been told the same thing. If there's only one scoreboard, the trail still has it no matter what.
