technical foul
game senario
Team A is loosing and coach is frustrated, probably thinking his team is better. Foul call goes against him. Coach says out loud" this is the worst officiating I've seen" Who in this group "T" him up? Who would just try to ignore it? |
|
|||
Out loud for all to hear? "T" will be served. No problem. Have a seat coach....

If loud enough for all to hear (and even if it's just the table crew and myself), what's the point ignoring an obvious plea for technical assistance?

Had this situation recently...
BV - Early in 2nd Q, home HC standing, in a dramatic overt manner, "Just because they are ranked (V Team #6 in state) doesn't mean you have to guarantee they will win!"
Whack, sit down coach. No regrets on my behalf, rest of game continues without incident (from the HC.)

I know that BillyMac will have a good laugh when I say: Maybe, Maybe Not. AND, while nobody will every accuse me of being soft on 'crime', not all naughty bahavior by a HC is an automatic TF. For an example, the correct response if the occured in the first quarter is to tell the HC that he should just wait until the fourth quarter to see how bad the officiating will be then.'
That said, I am off to an ASA Fastpitch Softball Umpires meeting. Have fun with this one guys. MTD. Sr.

Not only would I T him up, I would smack him upside the head with a frying pan, tattoo "LOSER" on his forehead and taser him on his cojones. Then, I would eject him and make him crawl out to the parking lot and run himself over with his car.
But hey - that's just me.

Let's say you chose to ignore the comment, because the game was in the 4th and the coach was loosing the game. A week or so later, you have the same coach for a game. Do you mention in your pregame that criticising officials is unsportsmanlike, and won't be tolerated or do you just wait to see what happens in the game?????? |

IMO, it is not appropriate to bring this up. Example – had a situation my first yr doing HS where a young, first-yr F coach was upset with us and came into our locker room at the end of the game to tell us what he thought of us. V officials escorted him out. I filed a report. He got his. Told my Assignor if he wanted to remove me from future games at that school I would understand. He didn’t remove me. Backed me all the way. Went back three weeks later – my antennae were up! Nothing was said. Nothing happened. It turned out to be just another game and a good lesson.

Several weeks ago, as I arrived at the game site, I found my partner had started the game by himself. No problem. A quick change and off I go. The HC from the home team comes to let me a locker room and tells me that my partner had T'd up the VC after a disputed call (ball rolled on top of the SQUARE backboard then off the side into a defensive players hands. He wanted OOB, my partner had a no call.
What the VC said was, "I guess we just have to bend over the table and take it from you, huh?" ![]() I told my partner, that the coach should be thanking him, because if I had been on the floor, his {backside} would have been making a swift exit from the gym, and since he didn't have an assistant, his team would've been getting the loss by forfeit too. Thinking about it STILL pi$$es me off. I really wished he wouldn't have started the game without me. ![]() |

It was the championship for mid schools in our area, so it was a big game for them. I could tell the coach in question was wired up, but I made small talk to let him know that I was thinking about this game and not last Saturday. toward the end of the first quarter, a shooting foul was called on the OTHER team. That coach was complaining that his guy didn't foul. The coach in question walked from his bench, past the scoreres table, to the other teams bench, to tell the coach that the officiating was horrible. I could hear him from the foul line. It was at that point that i introduced the coach to his chair with a "T". Now the problem.... the guuy I was working with was a first year guy, that was doing a great job, but He just couldn't have my back. The coach in question refused to sit down, and probably stood up 40% of the time after the "T". I kept telling my partner that HE need to back me up and tell the coach to sit down, that I didn't want to give the second "T". He just couldn't do it, so I was left with the chioice of giving two "T" to a coach or let him slide. I decide to let it slide as the coach remained calm for the rest of the game. the coach in question told me he is filing a formal complaint against me, as I gave him a "T" without giving a warning. He said that was A blatant violation of the rules!!!! I reallly enjoyed the game as it went to overtime and the visitors won by 2 points. |
