Close call
2 man JV game last night. I am the trail as the clock winds down ending the
3rd quarter. A on a fast break and as the horn sounds, B trying to block lay up makes contact - a foul if the quarter had not ended - we have nothing... Yeah or Neah... Coach mad - player holding head - faking a little in my opinion. ![]()

I'm calling that. Especialy since it's just the end of the 3rd Quarter. Maybe a no call if you have overtime comming up anyway. Hopefully Mark wont read this. This also depends on the severity of the contact. Not much there, no call. Judo chopps the shooter calling it no matter the sit.

Was the ball released prior to the horn sounding?
If yes, then call the foul. If no, then as long as the contact was not excessive, you've got nothing. If no and the contact was excessive, you have contact during a dead ball which is not a common foul but a technical foul. |

In this case, would it be correct to wave off the shot (whether made or missed) and award two free throws with the lane cleared, to end the quarter?

Mechanic of clearly waving off the shot makes this call much easier for the coach to accept, in my opinion. It appears as though you got the call correct, but without a clear indication that the horn sounded prior to the shot and foul, the coach was looking for the call.
