Throw-in: sideline/endline responsibility

BV, (FED RULES)

Team A has a throw-in in the FC; Lead administer throw-in which takes place on the endline (3 person crew) A-1 throws the ball to A2 who has to jump in order to catch the ball. A-2 catches the ball and lands on the sideline OOB. Lead hesitate to blow the whistle thinking Trail sees the feet on the sideline. No Whistle! Lead blows the whistle and makes the call. (Happens in front of opposing team bench).

At the half, trail who is the R discusses the play and stated that lead should not have blown the whistle because it's the trail line.

Lead acknowledge its the trail (R's) line; However, it is the administering official responsiblity to ensure the throw-in is completed legally.

Trail (R) stated it was his sideline and it was his call and he was responsible for ensuring the throw-in was completed successfully not the administering official.

Thoughts about the situation?

Each official that has a single line of primary responsibility in the Frontcourt. The trail is the only person that has multiple lines as their primary.

I am really not sure what you are asking. It is possible that the Lead saw the ball out on the end line?

There are many things that could influence this call. But the Lead should not be calling a violation on the Trail's line, unless they saw it with 100% certainty and they know the Trail was screened or blocked out from a good view. But that is rare.

Peace

LIke any other call in someone else's primary, if this is an "OH MY GOD!" type call, it needs to be made. IF it's a "Hmm -- that looked like something" call, then leave it to the primary official.

And, while the L may need to be sure the throw-in is completed legally, it was.

Good advice for rookie officials. How does that saying go? "Always listen to bob."

Note: According to Arsenio Hall, there are three m's in hmmm.

stay in your calling area unless it is a non-basketball play or is an obvious game-changing/game-ending call.

in this play, let the Trail explain to the coach why he didn't see the player landing on the sideline.

As soon as the throw-in touched A2, the throw-in was completed.
