intentional miss- free throw hits rim, violation
Hi all. New user. I've looked through some of the past threads and learned a good deal- that one on the shot being fumbled and could the player shoot or dribble after was a good one. (shoot-pass, not dribble)
1. Is there anything wrong with intentionally missing a free throw, at the end of the game for example? A friend got called for a violation for throwing the ball really hard and one-handed. hit the rim and went off but the ref called it. It was a close game, down by two so he was trying to miss. I assume most of us have seen it done before so I was thinking maybe because he threw it too hard or one-handed? |

Absolutely correct - no exceptions. A few years ago, in an 8th grade boys rec game, I had a kid do this in the last minute of a game. The ball hit the rim and bounced back directly at a defensive player's head. It hit his head and almost bounced up into the basket. It just missed - in fact, it hit the backboard and then the front of the rim. If it would have gone in, I would have been searching the stands for someone who had it on video.
