Scratched for no reason??

AD calls my commissioner, says scratch that guy from my game, don't know his name but he was the tall curly headed one. I heard him say that we don't play anybody.

Nobody on the court said a word to this coach before, during, or after the game.
The contest was relatively smooth.

Do I care?

Scratches/markoffs have nothing to do with ability. It's all about personalties.

Being able to scratch an official after the assignment is given is bull$hit that wouldn't be allowed here. However, when push comes to shove, we are independent contractors and without a contract, they are under no obligation to use you.

Man, you are so right. This one just caught me totally off guard. I love it when they scratch so many officials that you wind up sending them JV officials for there big contests. You reap what you sow!!!!

I don't know if it was you or your partner, but you should dig around to find out what happened in Alaska a couple of seasons ago. Save those kinds of conversations for the car.

I would not be upset about it. It is probably best you do not go back to that place anyway. If you are doing your job properly, you will be scratched more times in your career. And if someone going to scratch you for a reason that does not make sense, then that is to your benefit in the long run.

Peace

Your association should limit the number of markoffs a school can use. Sounds like your assignor may need to grow a pair.

Maybe you need to fill in a few holes here. Was the commissioner [assignor?] giving you 3rd party info? Was this a case of "A guy I know, heard this from a guy he knows"? Your initial post sounds like the commissioner told you that you were scratched due to the alleged conversation. Like I said, you need to elaborate.

Commissioner said it was an alledged conversation, that was reported by a third party. It never happened it was all BS. I'd rather be scratched for a kicked call, than a lie.

Welcome to the world of officiating. This happens all the time and you do not even know it. Not so much the scratching part, but having to deal with an issue based on what someone "overheard" or claim they "overheard." This is why you have to watch what you say. You never know who is around and just keep working. You can only control the things you do, not what other people claim you do. I understand the anger, but this is how many things in officiating come about.

Peace

As Rut said, it happens if you work long enough.

I had an AD mark me off 7 years ago. Know why? We had the toliet bowl game in a tourney. After the game, we go to the hospitality room to grab a soda. He comes in and tells us we're not allowed there. Mind you the sign says, "Coaches, VIPS, and Officials Only." I told him that was fine but he needed to tell the assignor so all officials would know. I also told him that officials had been there for the previous two days and no one else said a word. Got the markoff two weeks later.

Get this, I still woek his school in football 2-4 times a season. Go figure.

Presently marked off at two schools and proud of it.

You should've just asked him if he was illiterate.

I've been scratched from a conference. Closest school - 85 miles. Seems one of the coaches didn't like me whacking him for gesturing at a partner's back. Too bad.

Wow! The whole conference?

One of the two schools I'm scratched at is our second longest drive. Yeah me!

That is not all of Indiana. I know that to be true because I work college ball for someone that assigns a few HS conferences. Also I am sure if a school wanted to they could not ask you back. In my state not all of it has assignors and that is definitely the case here.

Peace
