Violation - Once in a career?

3-man game. I was T for a throw-in. The thrower threw the ball to his team mate for an alley-oop but their timing was off. The ball went into the bucket. I killed the play and confirmed the ball was not touched with my L and C.

The table was caught like a deer in headlights. So I wiped the bucket and pointed that we were going the other way. Probably never see it again, but it was fun the first time...

Had my first OOB violation on a non-ball handler last Tuesday. Spot throwin, and A2 is running around a few defenders and takes about 3 steps out of bounds. Easy call, coach didn't say anything. Table asked me about it later, though.

Also had my first elbow violation in a long time. Partner has one early against the home team. Mine happens in the 3rd quarter, roughly the same spot, in front of the home bench. Cosmic symetry ruled that day, as my call was against the visiting team. My whistle sounded just as home coach was telling us what call to make.

My partner called a 10 violation on a free throw. Probably never see that again.

That's a good basket in a Harlem Rockets game.

I've been playing, coaching, or officiating basketball for over forty years, and I've never seen this called.

Do you think that your partner called the violation after a real time ten seconds, or ten "hand flicks", or, did your partner give the shooter a couple of extra real time seconds, or a couple of extra "hand flicks". I've gotten to ten "hand flicks" on several occassions, and kept counting to eleven or twelve. I often wondered how long I would count until I finally blew my whistle? I guess that I haven't gotten to that point so far in twenty-seven years of officiating.

Last season, my partner called a violation for an offensive player intentionally going out of bounds, around a teammate's screen, along the endline. The player almost knocked him over. Good call. First time I had seen the call. It took a lot of explaining to "unconfuse" a very confused, but polite, coach.

Isn't it great that we get help from coaches, players, and fans? It makes our jobs so, so, much easier.

Oy vey.

Only time I've ever even come close is during a running clock game. Still have never actually called one, though.

Another first and only

I had a free throw bounce off of the back of the rim and land on the flange...and stay there. That's one you don't see everyday.

the one time I called this, I called it when my generally slow count got to 14 and the player was still not ready to shoot.

My first, and only elbow violation (like 3 years ago) still has the table and coach confused. They still want to know who I called the foul on

I had almost the same exact thing in a BJV game last night. First time I've called that....
