Yes.

When A2 was airborne, s/he retains the status of where they last were: that was the frontcourt. By landing in the backcourt, they have commited a violation.

"You are where you were until you get where you're going" I think is a phrase that applies here.

If A2 had jumped from OOB, instead of the frontcourt, and landed inbounds, instead of in the backcourt, would you call a violation?

We go through stages of being snotty and nit-picky about grammar, vocab, etc and then we try to back off for a while, and then we get nit-picky again for a while.

However, I think Mark's question was because he really didn't understand what you were trying to say. It looks to me like your clarification was a necessary one.

A player coming from OOB? Would he be the sixth player resulting in a technical.

Was he OOB in because of a normal play off the ball? This would still be a violation if he was last in the FC.

Did he go out OOB on his own? This is a violation in its own.

Help me out here, I am running out of scenarios!

Johnny, your scenarios are irrelevant. Nevadaref's point is simply that if A1 was standing out of bounds, then jumped and caught a pass before landing inbounds, you would call an out of bounds violation.

This is exactly the same rationale as the backcourt situation. If the player is standing in the frontcourt, jumps and catches a pass from the backcourt before landing in the backcourt, you would call a backcourt violation.

The rules book (or case book) contains some statement to the effect that "noothher infraction or complication is included in the play unless specifically mentioned." That's generally applied here, as well. so, If Nevada askas about a player being OOB, you can assume the player is legally OOB, unless the facts indicate otherwise.

And, if he's legally OOB, then it doesn't matter why he's legally OOB -- momentum, he was the inbounder, etc. and, if he was illegally OOB, then the play "doesn't happen" -- enforce the penalty for being illegally OOB.

Not mad at all ... while posting in forums like these, it is more like sending a text or it is very informal ... so not much thought into it ... basically, what is happening in our society with e-mails, blogging and text messages - we are seeing lazy writers. When was the last time you wrote more than three words in cursive writting?
