Help Me stop overthinking this one.....

Had this one yesterday...

Team A has throw-in. Both teams in bonus. Before ball is released, Player B fouls a player on team A. Just your typical garden variety push. So partner announces 2 shots and we go to the other end and shoot two.

For some reason my spider sense goes off and I start obsessing that this is wrong, but I can't figure out why. So wisely I keep my mouth shut ,everybody is happy and we move on.

So afterwards I go the book, can't find anything . I talk to a guy, at our Assoc. meeting, who is into rules. He says it was handled right.

So did we handle this right and I'm overthinking or what ?

You're probably thinking of team/player control foul. Whenever you're walking the length of the court to shoot free throws, you should ask yourself if you should be shooting them as most fouls happen in the front court.

Sounds right to me, no team control during the throw in so you don't have a team control foul which means shooting the (double) bonus is correct....no change in AP, A would still have the next arrow since the throw-in was never completed...

Good point. Also, you might have felt as though the wrong shooter went to the line, since it was off ball. Or you could have been uneasy about whether it even was a foul? Just some things that your sub-conscious might be whispering. You might want to take your "spider sense" back to the dealer, and get it adjusted!

Somewhere in my pea brain I got it that fouls on a throw-in needed to have substantial contact or they to be ignored ? I can't figure out where that thought came from.

Maybe confusing live ball and dead ball contact?

I gotta make sure I understand this...if a team has control of the ball...and fouls the defense...say a block for an illegal screen...that is considered a TEAM CONTROL foul and there are NO BONUS shots awarded? Last time I officiated...this was only the case in a player control foul situation...since there is no team control on a rebound...any foul on a rebound would be considered for a bonus situation. Am I correct?

This one threw me at first too (10 years removed from last game officiated and still getting caught up). The Penalty section in 10-6-1b - No free throws for a player-control or team-control foul. It does count as a team foul toward the bonus, but no shots in the event of one.

You are correct. I believe the team control foul stuff was added 2-3 years ago. This is why, in the OP we are shooting. As someone also stated, there is no team control during a throw in.

Any time there is a foul by the defense, you shoot free throws if you're in the bonus.
