For all we know the calling official did get the correct player for the foul and you and non-calling official got it incorrect. And the two officials that made derogatory comments about the third official may be jealous of that official's ability to officiate. There are people like that in all professions. As I have suggested to you in an earlier posting, please read either the NASO or NFHS code of ethics for sports officials.

I am still chuckling about your posting in this thread. Mark T. DeNucci, Sr.: I am impressed by your "softened" approach in dealing with this issue in the latter posts. It is nice to see you be a bit more "personable"!  (Especially the one you posted at noon on Sunday, Jan 13th)BktBallRef I am suprised... You are usually the one who brings a little humor to the situation. Then again, we all "kick one" occasionally  DOUG: What did you exactly say in your post? TXMATTHEW05: There is a lot to be said about experience. At your age (That is not your fault, you are chronologically-inhibited ) it is best to withhold judgment and observe, soak up the experience and learn from others mistakes. Observant and competent scorers (and timers) are an invaluable part of the game. Do your job well and be patient your chance to get "floor time" will come.

My two cents
Well, TXMATTHEW05 you sure have rattled the peg basket here. I agree with pretty much everything that has been said in all the posts here, and would like to add my following points:
1. I have no idea how much you know about basketball, or the quality of your officiating (scoring, or refereeing). One thing I have learnt, is to doubt a person's ability as soon as they start blowing their own trumpet (as you did). 2. Quote: "I don't make mistakes" - oh my, are you some sort of GOD?? I look forward to seeing you referee/score the next NBA Finals series as well as the 2004 Olympics in Athens. If you want to destroy any credibility that you may have - comments like this are the quickest way to go about it! 3. If you want to succeed, learn to not rock the boat. Listen, nod, smile, consider what has been said, and then make your own judgement. Don't try to get in pissing matches with people that are clearly more experienced and knowledgable than yourself - not only will you now make new friends, you will limit your chances to progress through the ranks. Finally, welcome to the board. Perhaps you need to spend some more time reading posts of others, and making occasional insightful comments and build up your reputation somewhat. But hey, this is just me own FEEBLE opinion.

I agree with oz on reading other people's posts. We have some very knowledgable officials here, and I have learned a lot! Matthews, use it to your advantage.
I was the scorer tonight for the first time since I started officiating, i scored at a jv game. I learned that scoring is a hell of alot easier than reffin! Just my opinion, I am an official and since then, I never really did the books, I tried it tonight, and I really like it. It is fun, I learned a lot about expecations of scorers, and learned a lot about officials and their relationship with scorers from the scorer's standpoint. I wish you the best of luck, I learned a few things about how I should officiate tonight, or more on how I should not; it was a great expierence. Just don't get cocky, and find a mentor, go over rule changes, and work some scrimmages at your middle or high school. have FUN, that is the key to officiating, along with skill, judgement, mental preperation, ect...
