Really?

Although this dude is very cool he doesn't do it to "draw as much attention " to himself.
Whenever he steps onto the court his reputation preceeds him... all the players trust & respect him (takes care of biz) he's a great partner as well, has your back to the point where he will step between you & an upset player.

Splute thanks.... I was confused just thinking of this situation and can only imagine what that does to the Table and Benches.... hum.

The table loves him (great people person) & they knew to score the basket before he even reports because of the 2nd tweet.

CLH - While you are entitled to that opinion, I would have to say he was taken very seriously to have had the opportunity to officiate in the CBA & everything under + call balls/strikes in the Majors...

You may be right man, but remember he also said to NEVER use it in real games! Proves my point, later man!

The whistle is an irritant. So we don't want to overuse it. Obviously it's proper to use it to draw people's attention to your call. At that point, you need to interject yourself into the situation. But I think it's better to forgo the whistle when it doesn't add any new information, or there is no need to get people's attention. In this case, you've already got people's attention; a simple signal will do all the communicating that's necessary.

I have had partners do this during games, and it bothers me a little. It seems a little like piling on. Leave it to the announcers to scream, "And the bucket too!"

Just my $0.02
