Double whistle
Has anybody ever heard of the following mechanic: A1 gets fouled on the shot (Blast) baskets good (tweet)?

Are you saying a single Ref blows the whistle for the foul and then blows it again for the made basket? Interesting..... what is the point of the secondary whistle?

I worked with an ex CBA official last night & whenever he gets bored with the quality of play he throws little things like that at me. I guess just to see if I'm paying attention or if I am going to ask him why he did whatever he did. He clearly said NOT to use it in HS/NCAA games or camps but it might be a good style to mix into the Summer Pro Am League. |

Although this dude is very cool :D he doesn't do it to "draw as much attention " to himself. Whenever he steps onto the court his reputation preceeds him... all the players trust & respect him (takes care of biz) he's a great partner as well, has your back to the point where he will step between you & an upset player. Splute thanks.... I was confused just thinking of this situation and can only imagine what that does to the Table and Benches.... hum. The table loves him (great people person) & they knew to score the basket before he even reports because of the 2nd tweet. CLH - While you are entitled to that opinion, I would have to say he was taken very seriously to have had the opportunity to officiate in the CBA & everything under + call balls/strikes in the Majors... |
You may be right man, but remember he also said to NEVER use it in real games!:D Proves my point, later man!

The whistle is an irritant. So we don't want to overuse it. Obviously it's proper to use it to draw people's attention to your call. At that point, you need to interject yourself into the situation. But I think it's better to forgo the whistle when it doesn't add any new information, or there is no need to get people's attention. In this case, you've already got people's attention; a simple signal will do all the communicating that's necessary.
I have had partners do this during games, and it bothers me a little. It seems a little like piling on. Leave it to the announcers to scream, "And the bucket too!" Just my $0.02 |

I'm not saying anything about the guy because in pro ball personal preference is the spice of life, and life being basketball, so if he wants to use that I guess it's ok but I don't know one NBA referee who does that. |

Looked pretty fresh to me :D although I do see where you're coming from, I don't think I would experiment with it in blowout situations. |
This is something that a lot of people really get bent out of shape about, but I like seeing it. I'll never do it, and I don't recommend it, but it's fun to be in the crowd and see an official get excited
I know a couple people that do it, and they just do it to have fun. Also, I could care less if a coach objects to the way I make a call. I care if an assignor objects to the way I make a call, and most of them object to it. |
