1) Kicking a call is the same as missing a call. That happens to all officials at some time in their career. However, not knowing a basic rule like goaltending sureashell is not the same as kicking a call. Not being able to make the correct call because you don't know the rules happens to the Old Schools of the world, not to real officials.

2) I get it. Other people live and learn. You don't. You just put the ball back into play. Gee, why doesn't that surprise me?
