This one seems to come up every few months. I'm always amazed at the number of officials that think that it's a rule too.

They've had different rules over the years. Before the 3-point rule came in, the players had to be behind the FT line extended to the sideline and outside the semi-circle. There mighta been something else way back, but I really can't remember.
