Simple question really just want to be sure.
A1 is shooting a legal 3 point basket and is intentionaly fouled, ball goes in. Award A1 with 3 a three point basket, award two free throws and award the ball at the nearest spot out of bounds...i understand that, i think. However if A1 is intentional fouled shooting a 3 ponter and the ball is missed would i award 2 or 3 free throw possession of the ball would of be awarded at the nearest spot out of bounds to team A. Just trying to learn NFHS and NCAA rules. Thanks SH keep smiling |

A good point. Our local group had a discussion and one of the leaders, (an NCAA guy) said don't call an intetnional on the three point shot because it will penalize the offense, they only get two free throws. I looked in the Rule Book under Penalties for fouls and you have to read #4 and then #5 also and put them together to realize they do mean for you to shoot 3 shots on the 3 point attempt if it is missed. Then I read it in the Case book and it clarifies. IS this any different in NCAA or others for them to make this mistake or did they just overlook? Thanks David |

This is what I found. mick NCAA Rule 10.20.2 (c) Rule 10 Fouls and Penalties Section 20. Personal-Foul Penalties Art.2. The offended person shall be allowed free throws as follows: c. Three free throws for: A foul against a player who attempts a three-point field goal and whose try is unsuccessful. When the foul is intentional or flagrant, the ball also shall be awarded to the offended team at the designated spot.
