new referee

Hey guys, I am a new referee just starting out. I have never called a basketball game in my life, just baseball, and was getting ready to purchase a few things on-line at purchaseofficials.com and wanted to know if I should get the pants to fit tight or a little loose? I only ask this b/c I know it's probably kind of old-school or unprofessional to wear a belt these days and I didn't know if most of the pants came like a tux wear you can tighten them yourself. Thanks alot, any other recommendations?

You want pants that fit. Ultimately this is a personal issue and if you have umpired baseball, you should have some idea of how you want your pants to feel as you are running around. Just a little suggestion, please do not buy belted pants. They look terrible and if you notice you will not find a single official at the higher levels wearing a belt. It looks about as bad as an adjustable hat does on a baseball diamond.

Peace

Order them to fit, same size as any other pants. Many pants have a wide elastic to hold 'em up. If they don't fit, exchange them.

I used to buy the Haggar Expandomatics through the Penney's catalog but Hagger has discontinued this style and they are really hard to find on closeouts. I guess I'll have to switch to Sansabelt. They're really nice but somewhat more expensive. Anyone have any other brands they use?

A little bit different school of thought...I wear my pants about an inch tighter than my actual size. I find that wearing every day size tends to fall when I run up and down...AND I tend to lose a few pounds as the season goes.

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered them earlier and if they happen to be too big, then I can always have the tailor tighten them when I get them hemmed. Thanks again

Hay Padgett, just to give you a heads up Penny's still has the Expandomatic.
I ordered a pair last month just to try them out.

Has anyone used those Reebok shoes on his site..."The Ref"? If so, how are they? My Converse Whistle shoes just are not as comfortable as they were. They are now in their 4th season.

I've worn "The Ref" shoes for a while now. No problems with them at all. I'd recommend them.

They are already out of my size, but thanks.
