Julie,
When a coach is being so vocal that it is starting to distract me from doing my job, it needs to be addressed early. I sounds to me like this coach was distracting you. I have gone so far as to say, "Coach, your behavior is starting to distract me. I need you to concentrate on coaching so I can do my job." If he doesn't comply, it's whacking time, IMO. This sounds like the kind of coach that is just going to be a pain and a distraction all night if it isn't taken care of.
