Is the Coach considered to be Home or game management.
This question comes from a test question that I have.

Question: Officials arrive on the floor 15min. before game time, they notices no "X" is on the floor to indicate scorekeeper, the officials informs the "Coach".

Like most of the questions on this test you have to be careful of the wording that is being used.

Your reply will help me with other questions that refer to "Home & Game Management.

Thanks to all

BMA,
I have always considered someone else, other than the coach, as "Game Management".
  • Athletic Director
  • Substitute for Athletic Director (Principal, Ex-coach)
  • Person that pays me
  • Person that shows me where to change

Never have I considered the coach to be required to have those duties. But I am sure if, for example, the coach is the A.D., the duties could be included.

This sounds like one of those famous trick questions. The book in the notes on the new rules says: Home or game management is to be notified. The question on the wording is is that Home Team or just another word for game management. I believe that Home would mean the home team so the coach would be an adequate person to talk to. Check with your state interpreter. I know there is one interpreter that frequents this board so I would like to hear his opinion.

For you young officials. It is up to the first officials of the night to make sure the tape is down. If there is a freshman, JV and then Varsity being played that night. If the Varsity officials have to make sure there is tape down then someone didn't do there jobs earlier that night. Same is true with coaches boxes if your state uses them. I would deal with the issue at the 10 minute mark when your dealing with the books.

    Tim,
If the "X" wasn't here, most officials would say, "So, what!"
After questioning, I am going to assume the "X" was marked with a clear finish. Most U.P. here are White tape.
It's amzing how schools feel so different about certain requirements.
Couple nights ago I saw a coach using the 14' rule with regard to the coaching box... in our 6' State. He was given no reminders. In fact, at his school that coach doesn't have room for a coaching box so he sits almost all the time.

    Wink

If the "X" isn't down, tell the coach you need his signature on the floor.

I have a can of spray paint and a stencil of an X that I offer to use if the coach or AD does not want to put down tape. Seems that I have never gotten to use it, however!!
