These situations aren't too hard for me b/c there is almost always a foul committed if the "scramble" for the ball lasts more than 4 or 5 seconds. Just find it. Third guy into the mix usually lands on somebody. One of the players invariably grabs the wrist of the other one instead of getting the ball. There is almost always something (or more than one something) to call in a loose ball scramble. I just try to grab something quickly.

Being the junior member on a crew in a game where the "prominent" coach has been whining, complaining, and questioning directed only towards me and deciding how/when it needs to be addressed.

Where are your partners on this one? If you are the only one hearing it, take care of the guy, but I'm your partner and I see it, I'd step in and give the coach the stop sign and then take care of business if he or she doesn't get the message. Last year at a lower level game (we worked 2 man on this one) a coach was going nuts behind my partner who was T. I could see the whole situation from L so I just stepped in and whacked the coach. His only comment was, "I wanted it from the other guy." I said, "Enough talk about my dating life, you need to calm down." Well, the second part didn't happen, but I thought it was kind of funny. The rest of the real story is that the coach got off my partners back and we had a nice rest of the game.

Oh yeah, the hardest call I have is travelling, especially on a catch and shoot for a 3. I have been told to let it go when they set their feet for a 3 but I have a hard time with that. To me it is a tremendous advantage, but if I want to keep moving in the right direction I need to lay off that one. I probably wave off more 3's than anyone in my area.

[set very large font] 4 OR 5 SECONDS?!?!? [end very large font]

sheez, in JV girls ball someone has a broken arm by then! If you don't call it in the first second and a half, you have no hope of convincing anyone that you saw what happened.

LOL. You know, I typed it and thought, it can't be that much time. But I didn't bother to think about how long it really should be.

Block/Charge or travelling. Both can be tricky.

Thanks for fixing that for me. I am such a techno-dweeb.

Good one, Ref Daddy. I had not thought of that. Basket interference is a real tough one. Block/charge to me is much easier.
