Happened last year.

Checked with the book 3 times in the 4th q to make sure score was right, they gave me a thumbs up, and we left. Came in after the game to let us know it was tied.

At that point, too bad, score stands.

I absolutely agree with Brian on this.... In my experience, many of the coaches (lat alone the fans) do not have an understanding of the Rules and/or Proper Mechanics of Officials...

I have always been taught not to blow the whistle to signal the end of any quarter, including the fourth. There are two reasons for this.

First, because of the airborne shooter rule and other similar rules, the horn (and therefore your whistle blown at the horn) really does not indicate the end of the quarter.

Second, if you blow your whistle, coaches expect a call.

After the horn, if I am trail, I just stand facing the scorer and give the "wipe out" signal.
