Mike Patrick is an idiot. A Maryland player was injured with 57 seconds remaining. The trainer was beckoned, so she had to go out until time lapsed on the clock. He advocated using a player already on the floor to shoot the FTs, call a 30 and then bring the injured player back in. He couldn't understnad why the sub shot the FTs while the best FT shooter on the team was in the game.

IDIOT.

LOL I know... he also said something stupid like "If there's nothing in the rulebook against it then it is legal."

Eitherway, this is a GREAT game.

Everyone knows Toliver = George Toliver's daughter?

Ray Charles could have called that offensive foul. Not a very smart play from a Duke student.

Of course it was Lisa Mattingly. She is the best official in the Women's game by far.

Peace

INCREDIBLE GAME! What a clutch 3-pointer to send the game into overtime! And what poise? This entire team is also returnign next year (2 freshman, 2 sophomores and a junior starting) plus they are supposably coming in with an incredible recruiting class -- scary!

I was there . . .

Mattingly was the best official in the game. That being said, there were a surprising number of really bad calls, and Mattingly's foul when the Maryland girl got 'too much ball' near the end was damn near chief among them.

I'm interested in a play, late in the game, that was called a travel. They don't show the replays on the big screen at these things. Is that to keep the crowd from going too nuts?

I am not a big fan of the 'fumble', one of the most prominent structural necessities of the way the rules are written - I don't like the idea of bailing out poor play. That being said, I thought the travel moving across the lane at the Duke end was . . . a fumble. She caught it and then she fumbled it . . . no control, no travel. Though it was bang bang - I didn't get a great look. What did the replay show?

This was my retirement treat from a young official and we had serious seats, close to the guhvner . . .

I don't many of the officials in the women's game. Is Lisa Mattingly the medium length blonde woman and Napier the black haired woman? Either way they were damn good. I loved watching them work but I guess I like watching them work because they use a lot of NBA stuff.

Yes, Lisa Mattingly had the longer pony tail with the blonde streaks. Napier was the shorter one with the brown hair and the bangs.

Lisa:

PS there was a recent article about her in Referee Magazine. Good read.
