Mattingly was the best official in the game. That being said, there were a surprising number of really bad calls, and Mattingly's foul when the Maryland girl got 'too much ball' near the end was damn near chief among them.
I'm interested in a play, late in the game, that was called a travel. They don't show the replays on the big screen at these things. Is that to keep the crowd from going too nuts?
I am not a big fan of the 'fumble', one of the most prominent structural necessities of the way the rules are written - I don't like the idea of bailing out poor play. That being said, I thought the travel moving across the lane at the Duke end was . . . a fumble. She caught it and then she fumbled it . . . no control, no travel. Though it was bang bang - I didn't get a great look. What did the replay show?
This was my retirement treat from a young official and we had serious seats, close to the guhvner . . .
